Frequently Asked Questions about Sound Meditation and Gongs

Do I have to do anything to participate in a sound meditation or gong workshop? No, all you have to do is relax and let the sounds and guided meditations flow over you.

What should I wear? Wear loose-fitting clothing that you can be comfortable in.

What can I expect? This is a type of meditation that involves sitting or lying down in front of a gong and/or bowls and listening to the sound waves. You can expect to feel sensations, tingling, or electricity. Some people may also see colors or visualizations. I believe that the brain doesn’t know what to do with this primordial sound and thus allows for deeper meditation.

What should I do after a gong bath? You can expect to feel relaxed and at peace, but some people may feel emotional. You should drink plenty of water after a session.

I wear hearing aids, is that ok for a sound bath? Turn your hearing aids off for the session, I’ve been told that the gongs sound like freight trains through hearing aids. You won’t miss anything, even if you cover your ears! Sound is absorbed by our whole bodies, as we are composed of approximately 60% water.
